I can not connect or received files and I run a FTP proxy, firewall, or IDENT server

  • Enable PASV or Passive Mode in your FTP client. To do this in Internet Explorer for Windows, open Internet Explorer, click Tools, then Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. Then scroll down until you find the option "Use Passive FTP". Check the box, click Apply, then Ok.
  • For older versions of Internet Explorer this is not applicable, as it had used PASV mode by default.

I cannot connect using Internet Explorer 7 or I don't see my files

  • With the changes in IE 7 the steps to connecting with the built in FTP client have changed. The new steps to follow are below.
  • First enter ftp.iqstorage.com into the address bar

  • A page reading :"To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer." Will come up.
  • Follow the prompt and click the page button on the top right of the window.

  • From the drop down menu pick "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer."

  • Once the window changes to a solid white background follow the steps here.

My upload speed is slower than my download speed, or is very slow.

  • This is because of your Internet connection. Often upload speeds for cable and ADSL home connections are about half of what the download speeds are.

Is my password secure when I use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator?

  • Old versions, versions 5.0 and under of these programs will keep your entire address text in the address bar after you type it in. Therefore, typing in ftp://me:myPassword@ftp.iqstorage.com will save the entire line, including the password, in the title bar. Old browsers do not stop others from looking at the full addresses typed in to your browser, so others could see your password by checking out the list of sites that you typed in on your computer. (Note: to get around this problem you can simply erase the "History" in your browser after you are finished using your computer. This option is found under Internet Options in Internet Explorer, and Preferences in Netscape.)
  • Also, you can use an FTP client from our software page. These are more secure, faster, and have better features than most Internet Browsers.
