Help and Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find the answer to your question? Contact us and our 24 hour support will get back to you as soon as possible.

For additional help using FTP, you can try visiting www.ftphelp.org.

Most Common Problems:

  1. Trouble Logging into an FTP Account
  2. I can not connect or received files and I run a FTP proxy, firewall, or IDENT server
  3. I can not connect using Internet Explorer or I don't see my files with icons like in Windows Explorer
  4. My upload speed is slower than my download speed, or is very slow.
  5. Is my password secure when I use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator?
  6. How do I cancel my account?
  7. What is your privacy policy and what are your terms of service?

Trouble Logging into an FTP Account:
1) If you have never used FTP file storage before and you have Windows Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, you can easily log in using these simple steps:
- Open Internet Explorer
- Go to: ftp://ftp.iqstorage.com
- A blank page appears with some text. This is normal because you have not logged in yet!
- Go to the File menu and click Login As..
- Enter your username and password and press enter.

- You are now logged in to your account! You can drag and drop (or copy and paste) files into and out of your account like a disk. No extra software is needed.

NOTE: Your browser may appear blank if this is a new account because there are no files in it. Try uploading a small file and you will see it will then appear as an icon inside the web browser.

MacOS Users: Internet Explorer for Mac does not integrate FTP into MacOS. Please use the free software provided here to access your IQ Storage drive.

I can not connect or received files and I run a FTP proxy, firewall, or IDENT server
-Enable PASV or Passive Mode in your FTP client. To do this in Internet Explorer for Windows, open Internet Explorer, click Tools, then Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. Then scroll down until you find the option "Use Passive FTP". Check the box, click Apply, then Ok.
For older versions of Internet Explorer this is not applicable, as it had used PASV mode by default.

I can not connect using Internet Explorer or I don't see my files with icons like in Windows Explorer
-First, you need Internet Explorer 5 or higher to use the Web Folder view feature. Under the Tools menu, click Internet Options, then click Advanced. Scroll down until you find an option: "Enable FTP Folder View". Make sure it is checked. If it is not present, then you may need to add it through the Windows Control Panel setup. Contact technical support for details.
You can then connect using: ftp://MyUserName@ftp.iqstorage.com/
Replace MyUserName with your user name.
If you or someone you want to access your files has Internet Explorer 3 or 4, you must access you files using the following:
ftp://MyUserName:MyPassword@ftp.iqstorage.com/

Please keep in mind that in this case the entire address including the password is saved in the address bar.

My upload speed is slower than my download speed, or is very slow.
-This is because of your Internet connection. Often upload speeds for cable and ADSL home connections are about half of what the download speeds are.

Is my password secure when I use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator?
Old versions, versions 5.0 and under of these programs will keep your entire address text in the address bar after you type it in. Therefore, typing in ftp://me:myPassword@ftp.iqstorage.com will save the entire line, including the password, in the title bar. Old browsers do not stop others from looking at the full addresses typed in to your browser, so others could see your password by checking out the list of sites that you typed in on your computer. (Note: to get around this problem you can simply erase the "History" in your browser after you are finished using your computer. This option is found under Internet Options in Internet Explorer, and Preferences in Netscape.)

Also, you can use an FTP client from our software page. These are more secure, faster, and have better features than most Internet Browsers.

How do I cancel my account?
- To cancel your account with us simply contact us and ask us to close your account. Please include your main user name.
